Astronauts need to be healthy and fit in order to go to space. You can go to space if you have good eyesight, good health and bone mineral density. All newly selected Astronauts candidates have to go through a period of training if they want to survive in space. For health and safety, you will need to speak different languages and engineering skills. By Ali
Pre -Training
Before you become an astronaut you don’t just train, you do something before that and I’m going to tell you about that now. You have to be in the army and do really hard tests which takes a year to understand. After you have done that test you have to be a scientist, engineer, biologist, physicist, a computer scientist or a mathematician. You need three years of working experience to be an astronaut. Assuming three years for BA this gives a total of eight years before you are a qualified astronaut. NASA launches a rocket with people inside for at least six months. By Haniya.
Tim Peake
There is a really famous astronaut called Tim Peake. He is a famous astronaut from Britain and he went to space for 3 years. Time Peake had WIFI in space and they had a lot of food and a party pizza because Tim Peake likes it in space. By Hasan.
Training
Do you know how hard it is to train just to become an astronaut? No? Well you’ll know all about it just after you’ve read this. Did you know that it can take more than three years just to become an astronaut? There are three main sections of training to become an astronaut. Astronauts will have to have medical tests, a lot of physical plus extra vehicle activity training. Surprisingly, you don’t have to go to university or sit a course or anything like that. The bad thing is that you have to train over and over again. To help them learn different techniques of training they visit different training centres in different countries. Like in the USA, Russia, Japan, Canada and Europe. In case of emergencies did you know astronauts take survival classes? They also have to learn how to scuba dive and speak the Russian language. After astronauts have finished their training they have to go on a special mission with other crew members. The mission is used to see if they are ready to go to space or not. Astronauts also have to go on a few rides. Here’s the thing: they are not normal rides! One of them is called the vomit comet. It is basically a ride which spins you around 20 times faster than normal. By Sara.
Famous Astronauts
There are some famous astronauts – especially Neil Armstrong who was the first man on the moon. Tim Peake is an astronaut. These aren’t just any ordinary astronauts – they are more famous astronauts. There are girl famous astronauts as well like Sally Ride.
Female Astronauts
Tim Peake and Neil Armstrong are both famous male astronauts. But what about women? Why are women not famous? It’s always men! So men can do anything they want but some women aren’t allowed to read! These women are heroes because they have made a difference for every woman who has a dream to become an astronaut.
These are the names of some women who have made a difference:
- Svetlana Savitskaya was the first woman to fly a rocket and perform the spacewalk.
- Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman to go to space and was 29 when she did it. She was also the youngest female astronaut to go to space.
- Anna Lee Fisher was the mum in space and she’s American.
- Helen Sharman was the first female British astronaut in space.
- Judith Resnick was the first Jewish American in space. These were amazing people who made a difference.
